Mamma is a Poet

Mamma is a poet
I want the world to know it
So I gathered up her writings
The rhymes that resonate with me
And printed a collection of Mom’s poems
For everyone, everywhere to see

Mamma’s poetry flows naturally like a dance
The words shift, spin, leap, and dart
Its melody enters my ears
Runs through my veins
And settles deep, cherished within my heart

Mamma is a poet
She surely should know it
Her verse is steady, strong and true
Mixing words, phrases, even drawings
To express an inner, often hidden view

Mamma’s poetry
Depicts family, friends, even foe
It speaks of God, and love, and longing
Asking questions, revealing sides
She otherwise might not show

Mamma is a poet
I certainly do know it
And luckily for me
She writes prolifically
The poems collected here span five decades
Reaching from the sixties to the 21st century.

Mamma’s poetry
Holds the key
To a gentle and loving woman
With vast and wondrous artistry.
She captures moments with words that rhyme
Creating a legacy that outlasts time.
